How to export a GEDCOM file from MyHeritage
MyHeritage can export any tree you manage to GEDCOM. It prepares the file in the background and sends you a link when it is ready.
Steps
- Sign in to MyHeritage and open Family tree, then Manage trees.
- Find the tree you want and click Export to GEDCOM in the Actions column.
- Leave photos out: the poster only needs names, dates and places.
- Click Start. MyHeritage builds the file and emails you a download link.
- Download the .ged file from the email or from the export page.
Good to know
- If the file arrives as a .zip, unzip it first and choose the .ged file inside.
- Very large trees export fine. You choose who sits at the center of the poster afterwards.
- Menu names can change between versions. Look for Export, Share or GEDCOM in the File or Tree menu.
Turn the file into a poster
Open your .ged file in the poster maker. It reads the file in your browser, suggests the person at the center and shows a fan chart straight away. Switch to a pedigree chart or a descendant chart, then see it on a wall in 3D before you order.
