How to export a GEDCOM file from Gramps
Gramps, the free open source genealogy program, exports to GEDCOM through its Export Assistant.
Steps
- Open your family tree in Gramps.
- Choose Family Trees, then Export.
- Pick GEDCOM as the format and continue.
- Choose a filter if you only want some people, and turn off private records if you prefer.
- Save the .ged file and open it here.
Good to know
- Gramps writes UTF-8 GEDCOM files, so accented names come through correctly.
- Menu names can change between versions. Look for Export, Share or GEDCOM in the File or Tree menu.
Turn the file into a poster
Open your .ged file in the poster maker. It reads the file in your browser, suggests the person at the center and shows a fan chart straight away. Switch to a pedigree chart or a descendant chart, then see it on a wall in 3D before you order.
